The word “conversion” is about to get more of your visitors to your online store to actually buy something. It depends of course of what products you sell, what prices you have and how good looking product photos you have uploaded. But equally important is the smaller and more subtle things that encourage purchases.
There are two main things you should keep in mind when thinking about conversion:
- It should be easy to shop. Your visitors must therefore understand how the site works. Many e-commerce often tells in text how to proceed in order to shop on the site. But if it is need then the site is too complicated. Visitors will most likely not read the text, therefore build a site that does not need a manual.
- The site must be fast. Otherwise the customers get tired . You often read that it should not take longer than two seconds to load, otherwise you will lose customers.
- Clickable should “feel” clickable. Buy buttons and other key features should stand out and not look like the rest of the site.
- Reduce the steps to checkout. From visits to purchase, it should be as few steps as possible.
- Minimize customer’s work. Do not ask the customer to fill in a lot of information that you do not need. Do you really need to know the customer’s phone number?
- Invest in additional sales. Many people build their web shops with new customers in mind. But as in any sale – it is often easier to sell more to a existing customer.
- Opt for thoughtful and simple pages. Customers shall be able to reach your site in several ways and all sub-pages should also bee easy to understand – not just the home page.
